If you time it right, you may be able to find the house of your dreams at a price that you can afford. There are times during the year when your chances of finding a home that you like may be optimized; at these times there are a large number of homes on the market. Spring is one such time.
According to data from the National Association of REALTORS®, the months between April and July are when the most house sales take place. Many homeowners choose this time of year to sell their homes as it is vacation time and there is nicer weather. Buyers are often reluctant to uproot themselves while their children are in school and when the weather makes moving difficult. Given the number of houses on the market during spring, it can be an optimal time for house hunting, as your chances of finding a home that meets your needs are increased. However, as spring is the busiest time for the house buying market, it also means that property prices are often at their highest. The demand for houses during this time means that owners are likely to hold strong to their asking prices.
This springs 2014 the market is a little different however. Here is San Diego there are many more Buyers than there are Sellers. Competition is fierce and your agent has to be very aggressive. They must be looking for new inventory everyday, asking other agents in the office and even go door knocking when appropriate.
