8 Steps To Home Ownership

8 Steps To Home Ownership

You’ve already taken the first step – you’ve decided to buy a new home!

Step 1: Decide to Buy

The steps are the same if you’re a first time home buyer or this is your second or third move up property. As you step out to buy your new home, a lot is going to happen. Please remember that you will be expertly guided through the entire process and therefore, it will be easier than you think.

A general understanding of each step along the way will make you more comfortable and confident.
After the decision to buy, your next step is to find a trusted advisor to guide you through every step of the way.

One of the first questions any buyer asks is: What kind of house can I afford? The only way to know for sure is to get pre-approved for a loan as soon as possible. You certainly will want to do this before you fall in love with a home that ends up being outside your price range. The next important thing you must explore is your wants and needs to gain a clear understanding of what’s most important in your future home. If you are married, you and your spouse probably have not had this discussion before. Married or not, you will find out a great deal about yourself as you go through this process.

I recently helped a first time buyer, married couple buy their first home in La Mesa. They bought a 1Br 1Ba condo for under $200K. As we were looking and writing offers, they learned a great deal about themselves. What they did like or did not like, and what was really important to them regarding how they would be living in the future. As a result of this process, they became more aware of who the people they are, what was important to them, and they even became closer as a married couple as well. Who would have thought?

This blog will be written in 8 sections, one to match each of the steps.

The 8 steps to home ownership are:
1.     Decide to Buy
2.     Hire your agent.
3.     Secure financing.
4.     Find your home.
5.     Make an offer.
6.     Perform due diligence.
7.     Close.
8.     Protect your investment.
